Position Summary

The Manager, Major Events – Special Events is responsible for the overall operational aspects of stadium events, primarily all non-Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United events. These events include concerts, college football, large conventions. The Manager, Major Events – Special Events will oversee an Event Coordinator (s), and this position will report to the Director, Major Events of Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development and leadership of an Event Coordinator (s). Guide them on the events under their ownership, and coach them providing constructive feedback and areas of growth.
  • Serve as the lead contact and liaison during the planning and execution of assigned major events, including but not limited to internal communication, budgets, vendor and supplier relationships, site visits
  • Schedule and lead event management meetings for assigned events
  • Collaborate with department leads to create cost estimates, event plans, outlines, and diagrams
  • Communicate client objectives and event details regarding schedules, staffing, equipment needs to internal departments including Stadium Operations, Food Service, Security, Medical, Production, IT, Parking, Public Safety, Ticketing, Guest Experience, Retail.
  • Schedule and lead pre-event and post-event after action meetings for assigned major events to include all pertinent internal departments and external partners.
  • Coordinate with event organizers to understand requirements for move-in/event/move-out ensuring the appropriate days/times are allocated on the stadium calendar.
  • Assist with all event related estimates and final settlements with Finance
  • Ensure the event elements of the contract are accurately executed and the equipment, physical set-up and personnel provided meet the requirements of the event, including load-in/load-out, the arrival and departure of equipment, and staging for the events
  • Provide leadership and support for other types of events such as community based or internal events as needed. The Manager, Major Events may be asked to assist with internal events
  • Identify operational challenges associated with major events and determine how to best work with stadium departments and client to solve these challenges and/or develop alternative solutions
  • Participate in client site walk throughs, assist with the sales process as necessary
  • Establish and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, contractors, and all key internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist with the preparation of post event requirements including notes, staffing, attendance, department reports, cost settlements, and other event related data to provide insight into future event operations
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet stadium, event, department and business needs

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • 5 years of progressive responsibility in Stadium, Arena, Multi Use Facility and/or Major Event coordination/management of large scale events
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Facility Management, Event Management or Sports and Entertainment
  • Strong management, organizational, communication and leadership skills
  • Attention to detail, punctuality, and ability to prioritize
  • Have flexibility in a fast paced and ever-changing environment
  • Have a strong understanding of the AMBSE Core Values and exemplify them

Required Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications and word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation, internet software and basic graphic design
  • Experience with computer-aided design programs
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate effectively at all levels both internally and externally
  • Able to simultaneously manage a high level of detail across multiple projects
  • Able to demonstrate flexibility and quickly adapt to changes while maintaining high levels of productivity and effectiveness under pressure
  • Able to work well within a team environment offering leadership and support to team members whenever necessary
  • Able to balance internal priorities with client expectations
  • Able to work late nights, early mornings, weekends and holidays
