The United Soccer League (USL) is the heartbeat of American soccer. Impacting more than 200 communities across the United States, the USL is the first and only soccer organization in the United States to build a youth-to-professional pathway for both men and women within one ecosystem. That structure includes three professional leagues: USL Super League (women), USL Championship (men), and USL League One (men); two pre-professional leagues: USL League Two (men) and the USL W League (women); and two youth platforms: USL Academy and USL Youth.

Position Purpose
The Pre-Professional Communications & Content position contributes to publicity, messaging and content creation for the pre-professional USL leagues. The Pre-Professional Communications & Content position drafts and edits press releases, web articles, and social posts for USL League Two, USL Youth, USL Academy and supports other USL leagues. This position participates in ideation, strategy, planning and execution across all USL properties. This position works directly with other departments in the USL organization, including Digital Services and Operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Write, edit, and publish press releases and web content for USL League Two, Academy, and Youth properties.
- Work with the USL League Two, Academy, and Youth staff and leadership on pre-professional initiatives.
- Write and coordinate expansion announcements for new pre-professional clubs.
- Create email campaigns for USL League Two, Academy, and Youth events.
- Pitch, book and prepare interviews for the Sr. Vice President of Youth & Pre-professional properties for major announcements and league events.
- Prioritize and communicate all relevant upcoming club-related projects/issues to the Sr. Director of Communications and executives.
- Assist pre-professional clubs with communications efforts and strategy.
- Create and distribute internal communications to clubs to allow for consistent messaging and make teams aware of potential upcoming news from the league.
- Serve as the primary contact for club and media inquiries about USL League Two, Academy and Youth properties.
- Provide editorial and communications coverage on game nights as part of a team rotation throughout the season.
- Support and assist with organizational PR for the USL men’s pathway and contribute to ideation, strategy, planning and execution across all USL properties.
- Assist with a variety of communications and content tasks for the USL pre-professional properties as needed.
- Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- 1-2 year(s) of work experience in related field and/or training.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field preferred or equivalent professional work experience and/or combination of both work experience and education.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic and a collaborative, team-first approach.
- Excellent communication skills, with exceptional proficiencies in writing and editing.
- Previous editorial experience highly preferred.
- Solid computer skills, including working knowledge of a CMS, comfort with MS Office and the Adobe suite.
- Functional knowledge of soccer is preferred.
- Spanish language skills a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with team members, executives, member clubs, and media members.
- Ability to work independently in a multi-faceted, fast, fluid, and deadline-driven environment.
- Passion for working in professional sports, which includes weekend and evening hours.
- Must have U.S. work authorization.
Work Environment
Based in Tampa, FL, USL Headquarters provides a vibrant and open working environment designed to promote collaboration, the exchange of ideas, and knowledge sharing. We believe in fostering a culture that encourages creativity, communication, and teamwork.
Currently, USL HQ operates on a hybrid work model. From Monday to Thursday, team members gather in person to harness the power of face-to-face collaboration. This not only strengthens the bonds within the team but also enhances communication and innovation. On Fridays, we transition to a remote work setup, providing our team with the flexibility to manage their tasks in an environment of their choosing.
Typical USL HQ hours are Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:30pm ET. Evenings, weekends, occasional holidays, and travel may be necessary based on business demands.
