Position Description

The Staff Accountant – US Club Soccer serves as the primary accounting resource supporting US Club Soccer’s day-to-day finance and accounting operations under a managed services agreement with U.S. Soccer. This role owns the full cycle of transactional bookkeeping, month-end close preparation, and financial reporting for US Club Soccer, a ~$20M organization. When capacity allows, this individual will also support broader U.S. Soccer accounting activities using shared systems and processes, with US Club Soccer responsibilities always taking priority. This is an ideal role for a detail-oriented accounting professional who is comfortable working across multiple systems, following established close processes, and producing accurate work independently for Accounting Manager review.

Primary Responsibilities

 

US Club Soccer – Primary Focus

Daily & Weekly Accounting

  • Record membership and player registration deposits from GotSport into QuickBooks Online (QBO), ensuring accurate coding by revenue stream and class.
  • Record coaching education revenue deposits from the US Soccer Learning Center into QBO.
  • Upload and code vendor bills into Ramp for payment processing; add and maintain vendor records in Ramp, including W-9 collection from new vendors.
  • Process 1099 contractor payments for coaching educators and scouts throughout the year, leveraging Ramp and QBO automation for payment workflows and year-end 1099 preparation.
  • Prepare and issue customer invoices in QBO based on internal team guidance.
  • Process member refunds in GotSport in accordance with membership team approvals.
  • Manage the Finance inbox, triaging and routing invoices for timely payment.
  • As required, review and approve employee expense submissions in Ramp in accordance with company policy.

Month-End Close Support

  • Prepare monthly journal entries for Accounting Manager review, including deferred revenue across multiple revenue streams, prepaid amortization, straight-line lease, and MSA commission calculations.
  • Review the P&L by class each close to identify and resolve miscoded or unclassified activity.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts monthly.

Reporting & Audit

  • Prepare monthly financial reporting packages for budget leads across US Club Soccer departments, including budget vs. actuals and supporting schedules
  • Support the annual audit and tax return preparation process by pulling schedules, workbook support, and transaction-level documentation as requested

U.S. Soccer – Secondary Support

 

Provide overflow accounting support to the U.S. Soccer accounting team on a capacity-available basis, using shared systems and processes including AP inbox management, Ramp expense approvals, customer invoicing, and journal entries in Sage; US Club Soccer responsibilities always take priority

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  •  3–5 years of accounting experience, including ownership of or direct participation in a full month-end close cycle.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and accrual accounting concepts, including deferred revenue, prepaid amortization, and balance sheet reconciliations; comfort with journal entry debits and credits required.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (QBO) required as the primary general ledger system.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal, written, and in-person communication skills.
  • Ability to execute under pressure and deadlines.
  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to prioritize workflow, meet close deadlines, and escalate appropriately.
  • General knowledge of soccer.
  • Capable of working in fast-paced and demanding environments.
  • Must be able to connect “micro” details to the “macro” vision and mission.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Experience with Ramp or similar expense management and AP automation platforms.
  • Experience with GotSport or other sports registration platforms.
  • Experience with Sage or similar ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with 1099 processing and year-end compliance.
  • Experience working at a non-profit or sports organization.
  • Passion for soccer.
