Summary: 
We are looking for a sharp, high-impact Controller to serve as the financial heartbeat of our organization. This isn't just about managing a ledger; it’s about providing the financial precision and leadership that allows our teams to thrive on and off the pitch. Reporting to the VP of Finance, you will lead our accounting operations with the same passion, discipline, and energy that our players bring to every match.
Responsibilities Include: 
  • Maintains the General Ledger system to ensure it accurately reflects the activities of all companies.
  • Conducts the monthly closing activities and prepares the monthly financial statements for each legal entity and related management reports. Includes a review of accounting transactions and preparation of journal entries as needed. Ensure the close is completed by business day 8 each month.
  • Manages and oversees the reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts, including bank reconciliations, with responsibility for maintaining supporting documentation and preparing necessary adjusting entries.
  • Maintains relationships with banking partners, manages credit facilities, and ensures timely submission of all required compliance and covenant documentation.
  • Oversees the daily reconciliation of revenue sales system to cash receipts and ensures proper coding to revenue or deferred revenue.
  • Supports the various audits of the company’s books and records conducted by third parties.
  • Conducts, with the promoters, all stadium event/concert settlements, including the detailed accounting of all event revenues and expenses.
  • Works directly with managers and directors to review their spending and management reports, and identify areas of financial opportunity and risk, with recommendations to maximize or mitigate.
  • Works with the department heads to prepare the company’s annual operating expense budget and periodic forecasts.
  • Oversees A/P and A/R functions.
  • Audit and improve productivity and effectiveness of current cross-team processes.
  • Timely file or review filing of all tax returns (sales/use tax, personal property tax, real property tax, 1099’s, etc.)
  • Protects the company’s assets through an effective system of internal control and knowledge of the company’s information systems (general ledger, ticketing, etc.)
  • Works with Major League Soccer accounting staff as needed and prepares and submits league reports, including budgets, forecasts, and actual results.
  • Support the VP of Finance by managing Utah Soccer’s implementation of a new accounting system this year.
  • Supports the VP of Finance as needed with analysis and recommendations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting REQUIRED plus 5-8 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong technical accounting skills with solid knowledge of GAAP and its application to the company’s financial statements.
  • Ability to lead and manage staff accountants.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, ownership, and other stakeholders (both verbal and written).
  • High energy with a desire to make improvements.
  • Able to pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a CPA.
Physical & Environmental Requirements: 
The job requires regularly lifting/pushing up to 5 pounds and occasionally lifting/pushing more than 10 pounds or exerting heavy force, in a wide disparity or environmental conditions. The job involves standing, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, typing, etc.
