Who are we hiring?
We are seeking a dynamic, customer-centric Director, Event Sales, to lead the growth of our private events business at CPKC Stadium and Current Landing. This role is responsible for driving event sales revenue through proactive business development, strategic relationship management, and the successful conversion of event opportunities.
The Director, Event Sales, will identify and cultivate new business opportunities, manage the event sales pipeline, negotiate contracts, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to maximize venue utilization and revenue. This individual will play a key role in positioning Kansas City Current’s facilities as premier destinations for corporate meetings, conferences, special events, and community gatherings. Success in this role will be measured by event sales revenue, event booking volume, venue utilization rates, client satisfaction, and strategic business growth.
What will you do?
- Grow and lead the private events sales portfolio, including corporate meetings, special events, and facility rentals.
- Develop and execute strategic sales plans to achieve revenue goals.
- Generate new business through prospecting, networking and outbound sales efforts.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, ticketing and corporate partnership teams, to develop and execute impactful, revenue-driving event plans and drive market awareness.
- Develop customized proposals and solutions that align client objectives with venue capabilities.
- Negotiate contracts and pricing structures while ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Manage the full sales cycle from lead generation and site tours through proposal development, contract negotiation, and event confirmation.
- Oversee financial reporting including grow event pipeline, event-related budgets, sales forecasting, pipeline tracking, and historical performance analysis.
- Own and achieve annual event sales revenue goals and associated KPIs, including lead generation, conversion rates, average event value, and venue utilization.
- Make real-time, customer-centric decisions to troubleshoot challenges and ensure event success.
- Lead, mentor, and develop event sales team members, establishing performance expectations and cultivating a high-performance sales culture.
- Represent CPKC Stadium at industry events, networking functions, and community engagement opportunities to generate new business.
- Champion the KC Current brand through consistent through professional client interactions and a consultative sales approach.
What do you need to succeed?
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Hospitality, Marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in event sales or management, within corporate, entertainment, sports or hospitality.
- Experience effectively selling, managing and planning events.
- Proven experience negotiating contracts with third-party promoters, corporate clients, and external event producers.
- Experience utilizing CRM and sales pipeline management tools to track opportunities, forecast revenue, and analyze performance metrics.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with external partners.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously.
- Solution-oriented and strong decision-making skills.
Special requirements of the Job:
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, inclusive of weekends, nights (event evenings & overnight operation shifts) and holidays.
- Ability to monitor company communications and respond to time-sensitive matters with senior executives.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and move around the venue for extended periods of time, often during events or facility setup and breakdown.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed for event setup, equipment management, or assisting with operational needs.
- Requires occasional bending, squatting, and reaching overhead to handle various tasks related to facility management, equipment, and event preparation.
- Must be capable of working in physically demanding environments, including navigating stairs, ramps, and elevated platforms during venue conversions.
- Ability to work outdoors continuously for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
