Job Description

 

JOB TITLE: Head Coach Middle School Boys Soccer

REPORTS TO: Athletics Director

 

JOB GOALS: Works with student athletes to develop teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, and athletic skills while promoting academic success and positive participation in school activities. Keeps the Athletics Director informed of program needs and concerns.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must successfully pass and maintain a clean criminal record.
  2. Compliance with district policies and drug-free workplace requirements.
  3. Previous coaching experience and/or experience working with youth preferred.
  4. Knowledge of WIAA rules, district procedures, and interscholastic athletic programs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Upholds district policies, WIAA regulations, league procedures, and maintains professionalism in all interactions.
  2. Communicates effectively and regularly with the Athletics Director, students, parents, staff, and community members both verbally and in writing.
  3. Promotes positive sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, academic success, and appropriate student conduct.
  4. Organizes, supervises, and manages practices, contests, tryouts, team activities, schedules, fundraising, and approved off-season programs.
  5. Provides instruction in sport-specific skills, conditioning, injury prevention, safety procedures, and proper athletic techniques.
  6. Supervises assistant coaches, volunteers, student managers, and student athletes as assigned while maintaining student safety at all times.
  7. Maintains discipline, confidentiality, sound judgment, and positive interpersonal relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
  8. Maintains accurate records, eligibility documentation, inventories, reports, and accountability for equipment, locker rooms, and athletic facilities.
  9. Tracks and maintains accurate attendance records for practices, games, and all sport-related activities.
  10. Attends required meetings, trainings, professional development activities, and fulfills all district and league reporting requirements.
  11. Reports injuries, discipline concerns, suspected abuse, vandalism, safety concerns, or other significant issues promptly to administration.
  12. Demonstrates effective organizational skills, time management, and the ability to prioritize and complete assigned responsibilities efficiently.
  13. Serves as a positive role model for students, staff, and the community.
  14. Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
  15. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Athletics Director.

ABILITY TO PERFORM JOB TASKS AS FOLLOWS:

  • Lift and carry athletic equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and demonstrate athletic movements for extended periods of time.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Travel with student athletes for competitions and team activities.
  • Meet deadlines and work under time constraints during athletic seasons.
  • Maintain general good health and physical stamina appropriate for coaching responsibilities.

CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE COMPENSATION: For classified employees serving in extracurricular coaching positions, compensation shall comply with applicable wage and hour laws.

  1. Classified employees serving in coaching assignments must accurately record all hours worked on district-approved time sheets.
  2. Classified employees working extracurricular assignments shall be compensated at an hourly rate no less than the applicable Washington State minimum wage.
  3. Hours worked in excess of forty (40) hours in a workweek, including combined district employment and extracurricular assignments, shall be compensated at the applicable overtime rate in accordance with federal and state law, including 29 CFR 778.419.
  4. Maximum allowable hours for each extracurricular assignment will be determined by the business office based on the assigned stipend amount and anticipated overtime obligations.
  5. Employees may not exceed approved hours without prior authorization from the business office.
  6. The District’s intent is to maintain fairness and consistency among coaching positions so compensation aligns as closely as possible with the approved stipend schedule; however, actual compensation may vary as necessary to comply with overtime laws.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

LENGTH: Seasonal position covering the complete athletic season, including postseason participation if applicable. This assignment is for a single season only and is not subject to renewal or guarantee of reappointment for subsequent seasons.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: As determined by the Board of Directors and district supplemental schedules.
EVALUATION: Completed by the Athletics Director and/or designee at the conclusion of the season.
