Reporting Relationships
Reports to: Direction is received from the Athletic Director
Supervision Exercised: Supervision is exercised over various full and part-time coaching staff and associated personnel within the athletic program.
Job Summary
Assist the Athletic Director with managing all phases of the athletic program. This dual role serves as the Head Men's Soccer Coach and includes various department responsibilities throughout the academic year, with a strong focus on athletic compliance with NJCAA and Institutional policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Additional related duties may be assigned.
Sports Coordinator Essential Duties in concert with the Athletic Director
• Compliance and Eligibility: Assist Athletic Director with:
o Verifying student-athlete eligibility via the NJCAA platform.
o Reviewing transcripts and evaluate coursework.
o Enforcing compliance with institutional and NJCAA regulations.
o Managing team rosters regarding scholarship requests and Letters of Intent.
o Auditing academic credentials to identify potential eligibility risks.
o Assisting in preparation of NJCAA Eligibility documentation.
• Academic Support and Student Services:
o Liaison for Athletic Department with Academic Advising to track graduation progress.
o Coordinate student-athlete study halls and progress reports.
o Coordinate counseling, tutoring, and student-professor communication.
o Develop student retention strategies and orientation day events.
• Operations and Event Management:
o Manage game-day operations and supervision when not coaching.
o Coordinate internal sports contracts and departmental documentation.
o Assist in organization of Booster Club fundraisers and athletic marketing projects.
o Assist in producing and distributing departmental printed materials.
• Leadership and Strategic Collaboration:
o Attend all required athletic program and departmental meetings.
o Represent the department at external conferences and committees.
o Gather and report data aligned with the Athletic Strategic Plan.
o Assist with selecting, hiring, and supervising program personnel.
• Professional Standards:
o Maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.
o Establish professional relationships using tact and courtesy.
Head Coach Essential Duties
• Program Management and Operations:
o Contest & Practice Management: Coordinate schedules, facility usage, and travel arrangements for all official practices and team contests. Design, execute, and supervise all phases of competition and travel.
o Staff Oversight: Hire and evaluate assistant coaching staff as assigned.
o Equipment & Budgeting: Select, order, and inventory team equipment within budget constraints, ensuring the return of all gear at season's end.
o Fiscal Accountability: Oversee the complete operational budget for the Men's Soccer program, ensuring all team expenditures align with institutional purchasing policies.
o Travel Expense Oversight: Manage, track, and reconcile all team travel costs, including lodging, meals, transport, and entry fees, ensuring strict adherence to allocated funds.
o Fundraising Allocation: Direct and monitor the allocation of generated funds, donations, and booster revenues to supplement the program's operational needs transparently.
• Recruitment
o Targeted Outreach: Implement and track a comprehensive recruitment plan to attract student-athletes.
o Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all recruitment activities and documentation strictly adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Athletic Strategic Plan.
o Scholarship Management: Manage and allocate athletic scholarships effectively, ensuring compliance with institutional limits and NJCAA regulations.
o Financial Oversight: Monitor scholarship budgets, track institutional aid eligibility, and coordinate with the financial aid office to ensure correct funding disbursements.
• Student-Athlete Health and Safety:
o Athletic Trainer Collaboration: Work closely with the athletic training staff to coordinate student-athlete injury prevention, medical clearance, rehabilitation protocols, and return-to-play guidelines.
o Injury Reporting: Ensure prompt communication and documentation of all student-athlete injuries and medical concerns to the athletic trainer.
o Safety Compliance: Maintain strict compliance with all campus safety regulations, emergency action plans, and institutional risk management policies.
• Student Athlete Success and Academics:
o Academic Advising: Coordinate with Academic Advising that student-athletes set up appointments for registration and map their route to graduation. Conduct mandatory semester check-ins with each athlete to ensure academic progression.
o Academic Support: Monitor and report student-athlete academic progress as required. Coordinate tutoring appointments in various disciplines use of campus resources (e.g., the Writing Center).
• Compliance and Professionalism:
o Rules Adherence: Ensure strict compliance with all NJCAA and Rock Valley College regulations.
o Professional Development: Attend and participate in ongoing coaching and sport-specific training.
o Conduct Enforcement: Distribute and enforce adherence to the RVC and NJCAA Student-Athlete Code of Conduct.
• Community Engagement and Public Relations:
o Booster Club Support: Actively support the RVC Booster Club by attending meetings, assisting with membership drives, and participating in fundraising activities.
o Campus & Media Relations: Maintain positive, professional communication with athletic department staff, RVC faculty, and local news media.
o Marketing & Season Summary: Partner with the campus marketing department to promote team achievements, handle game-day publicity, and maintain the program's brand across digital and print platforms. Compile and submit a comprehensive season summary to the Athletic Director, including contest results, conference/NJCAA standings, season statistics, and award winners (special, MVP, and individual records).

Master's Degree in coaching education, exercise science, physical education, or sport administration is preferred. 2. Bachelor's Degree, preferably in coaching education, physical education, or sport administration, is required. 3. Minimum of 1 year of coaching experience is required. 4. Ability to work independently. 5. Ability to take on many different projects at one time. 6. Support the initiation and ongoing development of the colleges' Athletic Strategic Plan. 7.
