JOB TITLE: Head of Grounds

POSITION OVERVIEW:
New York City FC is seeking a Head of Grounds. This role will be responsible for the management and delivery of grounds and landscape maintenance and renovation services, and processes that support the highest standard of playing surfaces throughout all sites (CFA campus and NYCFC stadium) and ensuring the highest standards of safety and an operational environment for NYCFC’s employees and customers.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Lead and manage the performance of the grounds services, including setting performance indicators, monitoring results, and delivering improvements in the quality of these services delivered to all NYCFC sites.
- Manage, develop and motivate the Grounds Maintenance team to achieve operational excellence and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Oversee the delivery of grounds maintenance services in relation to playing surfaces and landscapes at all NYCFC sites and achieving the external and internal standards required.
- Support match day operations whenever applicable.
- Ensure that the monthly planning and day-to-day operational use of the grounds at all NYCFC sites is to the highest standard, and in line with health and safety compliance and best practice.
- Manage all site resources, especially budgets, machinery and technology in an efficient and effective manner and work closely with the Procurement team on service contracts and work orders in line with NYCFC strategies.
- Lead on all grounds and landscaping projects, ensuring that all projects are managed to the highest standards and that the quality of site provision meets the needs of employees and customers.
- Plan, procure, and project manage all renovation projects for all sites ensuring budgets and objectives are met.
- Work closely with partners and stakeholders to provide the most suitable environment for the users of grounds facilities.
- Manage contracts and assist where required in their procurement.
- Support all the services delivered by the Infrastructure Development department including input where required on projects.
- Monitor, evaluate and review evolving pitch construction types for stadium and training ground environments.
- Oversee the implementation of cost effective, chemical / fertilizer programs.
- Plan to achieve fixed deadlines and problem-solving skills.
- Able to deliver effective presentations to a variety of audiences and report writing for internal purposes; able to write succinct reports on complex issues.
- The ability to work in a fast-moving environment.
- Establish relationships and influence key stakeholder groups and maintain a customer focused approach to the management of all external relationships.
- Management of time, working to tight deadlines to ensure priorities are met.
- Negotiation skills to achieve desired outcomes.
WHO YOU ARE:
- Experienced managing and leading Grounds Management teams.
- 5+ years of a proven successful track record of grounds management.
- Setting targets, monitoring outcomes, achieving results, and working towards continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation.
- Experienced with contract management.
- Experienced managing a multi-million-dollar budget
- Proficient in MS Office and project management skills.
- Experience managing modern pitch construction types including stitched and hybrid turf playing surfaces and overseeing their initial installation.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in turfgrass management

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicant must be able to comply with MLS Next Safety and Well-Being policy and any other applicable child safety policies provided to applicants by NYCFC
- Must be able to work games scheduled which may be at night and on weekends and holidays
COMPENSATION:
This exempt position has an estimated annual base salary range of $125,000 to $145,000 and is not overtime eligible. Final compensation offer amounts are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to demonstrated skill set, years and depth of relevant experience, and some role-dependent factors such as certifications and software expertise.
