Position Summary:
Atlanta United FC is seeking an Integrated Performance Scientist to lead the day-to-day operation of performance monitoring technologies and support the strength and conditioning program. This role blends applied sport science with data analytics and will leverage emerging technologies to drive evidence-based decision-making. The Integrated Performance Scientist will be responsible for collecting, processing, analyzing, and reporting athlete workload and readiness data while contributing to the development of predictive models and in-house analytical tools. This position works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary performance and medical team to support player health, development, and on-field performance.
Primary Responsibilities – Sport Science & Performance Technology:
- Manage daily operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of performance monitoring technologies including GPS/LPS (PlayerData), forceplates, heart rate monitors, and 1080 Sprint/Motion
- Collect and process training and match data, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery to key stakeholders
- Conduct ad-hoc analysis of training, match, and other physical performance data as requested by coaching and performance staff
- Conduct and interpret physical performance testing (jump assessments, isometric/dynamic strength testing, sprint profiling)
- Query data from existing Microsoft Azure SQL database for analysis and report generation
- Maintain the Athlete Management System (AMS) with accurate, up-to-date records and contribute to the development of new features within the in-house AMS
- Support evidence-based decision-making through applied research and literature review
- Support return-to-play processes through objective data analysis and reporting
- Liaise with the Director of Health and Performance on technology vendor evaluation and implementation
Secondary Responsibilities – Strength & Conditioning Support:
- Assist with pre-training activation protocols and movement preparation
- Support delivery of team and individual strength training sessions
- Collaborate with medical and performance staff on return-to-play progressions and end-stage rehabilitation
- Assist with on-field conditioning and recovery sessions as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Sports Science, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or related field
- Certified Performance and Sport Scientist (CPSS)
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a professional or elite sport environment
- Demonstrated proficiency with GPS systems, force plates, and athlete monitoring platforms
- Strong data analysis and modeling
- Proficiency in R, Python, or SQL for data analysis
- CPR/AED certification
