Description

The Harker School is hiring part-time seasonal coaches for the 2026–2027 for our upper school sports seasons.

Coaching opportunities may be available for the following sports during fall, winter, and spring seasons:

Winter: November - March

 Applicants may indicate interest in assisting with one or multiple sports/seasons.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age (Assistant Coaches may be considered at least 15 years of age where applicable).
  • Experience working with children preferred; must be comfortable working with and around school-age students.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification required.
  • 1–2 years of coaching experience preferred.
  • Experience participating in or knowledge of the sport interested in coaching preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely and effectively supervise and manage groups of student-athletes.
  • Assist with or organize practice plans and game strategies.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and team records as needed.
  • Teach sport-specific skills while encouraging teamwork, leadership, discipline, and good sportsmanship.
  • Foster a fair, inclusive, and positive environment for all student-athletes.
  • Communicate effectively with the Athletic Director, coaches, staff, students, and parents.
  • Ensure the safety and appropriate behavior of students during practices, competitions, and team travel.
  • Stay informed regarding athletic department communications, schedule changes, and program updates.
  • Follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Upper School Coaches Handbook.
  • Maintain knowledge of league, section, and state bylaws pertaining to the sport.
  • Attend required coaches meetings and seasonal parent meetings.
  • Support middle and/or lower school athletic programs where applicable.
  • Complete additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to coach and mentor students ages 13–19.
  • Knowledge of coaching techniques, skill development, and game strategy.
  • Ability to motivate and positively influence student-athletes.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to student-athlete development both on and off the field/court.

Working Conditions

  • May require extended periods of standing, walking, bending, or physical activity.
  • Majority of time may be spent outdoors with exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat and cold.
  • May require evening, weekend, and travel commitments during the athletic season.
