Varsity Assistant Coach - Boys Soccer

Pay for the 2026-2027 school year ranges from $1,712 to $2,691, based on verifiable prior experience at this age level.

Purpose: Under the direction of the head coach, teaches and coaches student-athletes who desire to excel in Soccer and provides them with the opportunity to develop knowledge, skill, and performance in a positive, supportive environment.

Status: Temporary Position (renewable one-year contract)

Responsible to: Athletic Director, David Holcomb (david.holcomb@nssd29j.org), Principal, Jamie McCarty (jamie.mccarty@nssd29j.org), and the head coach.

Assigned Responsibilities:

  1. Assists in organized, supervised practice as the program requires.
  2. Teaches all of the skills necessary to participate in the sport.
  3. Teaches the strategies necessary to participate in the sport.
  4. Teaches drills and exercises to develop strength, stamina, and speed in the sport.
  5. Assists in the development of seasonal goals and objectives and daily practice plans.
  6. Assists in the development of lines of communication with parents, press, officials, and booster clubs to promote the sport.
  7. Supervises locker room before and after practice, as required.
  8. Supervises bus trips, as required.
  9. Adheres to Oregon School Activities Association rules and regulations, Oregon West Conference SOPs, and the District policy.
  10. Follows specified standards, policies, and procedures of the building and District.
  11. Actively encourages student participation.
  12. Promotes the ethical values of athletics.
  13. Maintains positive working relationships with the head coach, administration, other staff, and the community to enhance the sport.
  14. Assists with the proper care, maintenance, and security of facilities, equipment, and supplies from the first day of the season until the cycle of responsibility is completed.
  15. Promotes the concept of sportsmanship.
  16. Develops positive health and safety standards for all program athletes.

Qualifications

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  2. Previous coaching experience is preferred.
  3. Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work positively with students, staff, and parents
  4. Must encourage and understand the benefits of students participating in multiple sports
  5. Possess the following certifications:
    • NFHS Certification
      • Concussion, Heat and Illness, Spirit and Safety, and Steroid Training
    • Current First Aid/CPR & Epi-Pen/Medical Training
  6. Complete District safety trainings
  7. Demonstrate strong leadership, communication skills, and a high level of ethical behavior.
  8. Must be punctual and have regular attendance.
