    Job Description

    • The Head Coach must demonstrate a strong commitment to an education-based athletic philosophy, providing a structured, developmentally appropriate program that becomes increasingly competitive over time. The successful candidate will understand the vital role interscholastic athletics play within the total school program and their impact on the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of students.
    • The Head Coach is expected to model exemplary moral character, leadership, and professional behavior, adhering to the highest standards of ethics and integrity. Responsibilities include teaching and enforcing the rules of the game in both spirit and letter; serving as a positive role model for student-athletes, spectators, and the school community; promoting sportsmanship; treating players, opponents, and officials with dignity and respect; instilling sound training habits; and upholding the highest level of responsibility and conduct expected of all Howland Local School District employees.
       

    Qualifications/Attributes:

    • Must possess integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness, and exemplify high moral character.
    • Must serve as a positive role model who utilizes respectful, developmentally appropriate, and effective coaching strategies.
    • Must demonstrate strong leadership skills, including the ability to organize, manage, and supervise assistant coaches and program personnel.
    • Must have the ability to accept constructive criticism and engage in continuous professional growth.
    • Previous head coaching experience preferred.
    • Must demonstrate a commitment to both academic achievement and athletic excellence for all student-athletes.
    • Must have outstanding communication skills with student-athletes, coaches, parents/guardians, teachers, and administrators.
    • Must be a teacher of the sport and demonstrate a willingness to commit to the development of the program both in and out of season.
    • Must demonstrate the ability to develop and implement effective practice plans, competitive strategies, and long-term program goals.
    • Must demonstrate a commitment to student-athlete safety, including knowledge of injury prevention, concussion protocols, and emergency procedures.
    • Must promote and maintain a positive, inclusive, and supportive team culture.
    • Must demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with OHSAA rules, league regulations, and district policies.
    • Must demonstrate strong organizational and time-management skills and dependability in meeting schedules, deadlines, and program responsibilities.
    • Must demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively with the administration, activities director, teachers/staff, parents/families, other coaches and programs, and the board-approved booster organization.
    • Must hold a valid State of Ohio Pupil Activity Permit and meet all requirements necessary to maintain the permit.
    • Must successfully complete BCI/FBI background checks and drug testing as required.
       

    Salary

    • Per negotiated agreement.
