Position Description

The Vice President, Corporate Affairs is a key leader responsible for overseeing and advancing U.S. Soccer’s relationships, reputation, and alignment with critical external stakeholders across the domestic and global soccer landscape. 

Reporting to the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, the VP will drive the Federation’s enterprise-level engagement strategy with professional leagues and clubs, international soccer bodies (e.g., FIFA and Concacaf), member organizations, and other high-priority constituencies. The VP will provide strategic counsel to the CEO, CCAO, and other senior executives on matters of external relations, strategic delivery, and long-term organizational positioning. The role requires exceptional judgment, a proactive leadership mindset, and a deep understanding of how effective stakeholder engagement fuels strategic outcomes in a complex, fast-evolving sports environment. 

This position will also lead a team of professionals and work cross-functionally across U.S. Soccer’s sporting, business, and operational units to drive coherent execution. In all, this role is a key public-facing and behind-the-scenes driver of U.S. Soccer’s institutional impact.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree (JD, MBA, MPA) preferred.
  • 10-15+ years professional experience, preferably within public affairs, strategy consulting, and/or within an equivalent function in industry 
  • Proven track record of influencing high-level stakeholders and navigating complex political or organizational environments.
  • Executive presence, with comfort presenting to and advising C-suite leadership.
  • Experience managing teams, budgets, and long-term planning efforts.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Outstanding project management and associated communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to spot issues and manage risk
  • Quantitative, financial, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)  
  • Ability to manage and drive forward multiple projects while maintaining zero-defect attention to detail
  • General knowledge of soccer
  • Must be able to connect "micro" details to the "macro" vision and mission
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Potential of significant travel both domestic and international

Desired Qualifications

  • Passion for the sport of soccer 
  • A strong understanding of the culture of soccer and its fans across North America
  • General knowledge of Sports, Entertainment, Media and Technology industries
  • Prior experience working in the sports industry, non-profit, or public affairs 
  • Ability to anticipate challenges and identify opportunities to support U.S. Soccer’s initiatives
