JOB TITLE: Youth Development Phase Coach
REPORTING TO: Technical Director

POSITION OVERVIEW:
New York City FC is seeking a Youth Development Phase Coach. This role will be responsible for supporting the planning, delivering, and evaluating of a holistic and age-appropriate player development program for players in the U12–U14 age groups. The role places a strong emphasis on individual growth within a team context, fostering creativity, adaptability, and decision-making through an Ecological Dynamics framework, where learning emerges from interactions between the player, the task, and the environment. You will be assisting Head coaches across U12-U14 and have an increased individual focus during training sessions
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Assist with the design and delivery of high-quality training sessions aligned with the club’s Player Development Model and long-term development plan.
- Implement an Ecological Approach to Pedagogy, emphasizing representative learning environments and player-environment interactions.
- Work collaboratively with Academy coaches and performance staff to ensure individual development is consistent and aligned across age groups.
- Help with creating individualized development plans (IDPs) for players, focusing on technical, tactical, physical, psychological, and social pillars.
- Provide regular feedback to players and parents in line with the club’s communication policy.
- Contribute to the multi-disciplinary team by supporting performance analysis, sports science, psychology, and medical departments in developing the whole player.
- Support players during trainings, games, tournaments, and club events both domestically and internationally.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- Coaching Qualifications: Minimum U.S. Soccer B License
- Experience: Experience with coaching in a professional academy setting, preferably with U12–U14 age groups and younger.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of age-specific development, the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, and the Ecological Dynamics framework.
- Planning & Analysis: Ability to design representative tasks and constraints-based practices; comfortable using video and data to inform coaching. Ability to structure and plan proactively, to smoothening multi-team collaboration
- Communication and collaboration: Working across multiple teams and age-groups demands excellent collaboration skills and being a highly effective communicator. Communicating to parents, players, colleagues and other stakeholders.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicant must be able to comply with MLS Next Safety and Well-Being policy and any other applicable child safety policies provided to applicants by NYCFC
- Must be able to work games scheduled which may be at night and on weekends and holidays
COMPENSATION:
This exempt position has an estimated annual base salary range of $55,000 - $65,500 and is not overtime eligible. Final compensation offer amounts are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to demonstrated skill set, years and depth of relevant experience, and some role-dependent factors such as certifications and software expertise.
