JOB TITLE: Academy Athletic Trainer

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Academy Athletic Trainer (AT) plays a vital role in the daily sports medicine operations for NYCFC’s Academy teams. This individual will oversee injury prevention, as well as ongoing evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation for Academy players, while supporting holistic performance development. The AAT will collaborate closely with the Medical Lead and Head of Performance Services to deliver top-tier care and performance programming aligned with the club’s methodology and long-term athlete development goals.
This is a dynamic role that blends hands-on athletic training, data-informed performance support, and collaboration across departments to help shape the next generation of professional players. It is through the Academy’s vital pathway that our First Team maintains Homegrown talent, ensuring a strong and vibrant future while embodying the club's identity and values. WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Medical & Athletic Training Duties
- Serve as the primary Certified Athletic Trainer for NYCFC Academy teams.
- Provide medical services including injury assessment, emergency care, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and return-to-play protocols.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date medical records using AMS system.
- Coordinate medical referrals and collaborate with team physicians as needed.
- Manage medical inventory and ensure clinical equipment is in working order.
Performance & Interdisciplinary Collaboration
- Partner with Performance staff to deliver comprehensive athlete development, including:
- Strength and conditioning support
- Warm-up routines and mobility programs
- Load management and recovery strategies
- Nutrition and hydration education
- Data monitoring (including GPS and wellness tracking)
- Support the creation and implementation of individualized return-to-play and injury-prevention plans.
- Assist with fitness assessments, training periodization, and preseason/offseason planning.
- Actively communicate with technical staff, players, and families to align on care plans and progress.
Additional Contributions
- Participate in NYCFC’s Youth Affiliate education initiatives.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative environment within the Academy and wider NYCFC organization.
- Work closely with NYCFC II and First Team departments to ensure continuity in care and long-term player development.
WHO YOU ARE:
- Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) with an active NY State License.
- Member in good standing with NATA (or CATA); NATABOC certified.
- Minimum 1-2 years of professional experience in sports medicine (preferably with youth or high-performance athletes).
- Current CPR and emergency care certification.
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) strongly preferred.
- Previous experience in soccer and/or with youth athletes highly desirable.
- Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.
- Must hold personal professional liability insurance.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicant must be able to comply with MLS Next Safety and Well-Being policy and any other applicable child safety policies provided to applicants by NYCFC
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel for matches and camps.
COMPENSATION:
This exempt position has an estimated annual base salary range of $55,000 - $62,000 and is not overtime eligible. Final compensation offer amounts are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to demonstrated skill set, years and depth of relevant experience, and some role-dependent factors such as certifications and software expertise.
