Summary: 
The Academy Coach will report to the Academy Director and work collaboratively with other developmental coaching staff to support all aspects of team planning, player development, and on-field performance. This role is responsible for leading training sessions, preparing teams for competition, and coaching on matchdays. In partnership with the Academy Director, the Academy Coach will implement strategies aligned with club objectives and help establish a clear team identity. The position also contributes to roster management, talent identification, and performance evaluation, while demonstrating a strong commitment to player development, scouting preparation, meeting participation, and building effective relationships with key stakeholders.

APPLICANTS MUST BE PREPARED TO SUBMIT A 30-MINUTE VIDEO OF A TRAINING SESSION AND 1 FULL MATCH OF A TEAM THEY COACH PLAYING.   

Responsibilities Include: 
  • Contributes to the planning and execution of training sessions to prepare teams for matches. 
  • Attends all matches, both home and away, coaching the team as assigned. 
  • Collaborates with the Academy Director to monitor and enhance individual and team development. 
  • Conduct player assessments as deemed appropriate and necessary by the RSL Front Office and Real Salt Lake Academy Director. 
  • Assist in creating a focused training environment for youth players in the Real Salt Lake player pathway. 
  • Implements a clear strategy aligned with Club's developmental goals and establishes a team identity. 
  • Emphasize self-responsibility and foster accountability of players, coaches, and staff in creating the best working relationship amongst teammates and staff. 
  • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of the player pool beyond the mandatory age groups.  
  • Contributes to managing the player roster, positional depth chart, and to talent identification and scouting efforts. 
  • Creates optimal on and off-field conditions for players, coaches, and staff. 
  • Supports the Pre-Academy & Outreach Program and maintains relationships with Academy Directors, Coaches, and Players. 
  • Maintains coaching and development licenses at the highest levels available. 
  • Actively maintains relationships with Academy Directors, Coaches, and Players within Utah and Arizona and across the United States.  
  • Other duties as assigned.   

Minimum Qualifications: 
  • Previous professional experience in soccer youth development. 
  • Professional qualifications of USSF B license (or equivalent from an approved federation)
  • Ability to pass a background check and become Safesport certified.  
  • Ability to teach through demonstration. 
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate player performance using video analysis tools and statistical data. 
  • Outstanding knowledge of the sport and a detailed understanding of current and developing tactics, coaching methods, analytics, and training methods. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with a focus on Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Ability to travel, both domestically and internationally.  
  • Excellent facilitation skills, including the ability to manage and resolve tensions, disputes, and conflicts. 
  • Effective communication skills with an emphasis on clearly communicating the mission and vision of Club culture with players, families, coaches, and community members. 
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. 
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate the needs of the teams. 

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Professional or collegiate playing experience. 
  • 3-5 years of developmental coaching experience.  
  • Possess a strong understanding of MLSNext rules 
  • USSF A license or UEFA A

Physical Demands & Work Environment: 
The job requires regularly lifting/pushing up to 5 pounds and occasionally lifting/pushing more than 10 pounds or exerting heavy force, in a wide variety of environmental conditions. The job involves standing, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, typing, etc.
