SUMMARY:

The Head of Recruitment for Real Salt Lake is responsible for ensuring the quality assurance of all activities within the Scouting, Recruitment, and Analytics Department. Collaborating closely with the Sporting Director, they oversee the development and implementation of the club's scouting processes, targeting strategies, scheduling, and logistical operations. Additionally, they hold responsibility for the individual development of the Club's scouting staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Develop, implement, and manage a multi-year player recruitment and succession plan that supports the club's strategic goals.
  • Design and execute comprehensive scouting strategies to identify and recruit players both internationally and domestically (including college and academy).
  • Lead and oversee all scouting operations, including scheduling meetings, defining objectives, and ensuring consistent reporting standards.
  • Maintain a robust, centralized player recruitment database, including the creation and management of comprehensive evaluation systems with key performance indicators (KPIs) and positional profiles.
  • Collaborate with data and video analysts to produce detailed scouting reports and provide data-backed insights to inform player recruitment decisions.
  • Guide and manage all interactions with players, families, and agents to ensure a professional and seamless recruitment process.
  • Produce and present detailed reports on scouting targets, depth charts, player development, and other key metrics to senior leadership.
  • Maintain and expand professional relationships within the Major League Soccer (MLS) and global football community.
  • Assist the Sporting Director with the execution of all scouting projects and other assigned duties.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Sporting Director.  

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Five years of experience as a scout or equivalent in a professional club or international.
  • Experience as a leader in a club or federation.
  • Experience as a scout and coach.
  • Proven working experience in recruiting.
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of current talent identification and development theories and practices, meeting international and domestic standards.
  • Understanding of the domestic and international soccer landscape/pathway (youth/pro) and trends.
  • Ability to think critically and problem solve.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to large internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships and maintain regular communication with key leaders and stakeholders in the soccer community.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to prioritize workflow.
  • Knowledge of MLS and the American Soccer landscape.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational abilities to manage multiple individuals, programs, and priorities, including short-term (event) and long-term planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate thoughts and ideas to staff and colleagues effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage and communicate with a network of agents and contacts within various levels of soccer, both domestic and abroad.
  • Excellent knowledge of the area of expertise, including market status, trends, and best practices.
  • Strong relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to pass a background check and become Safe Sport certified

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • U.S. Soccer Talent Scout License/International Scout Course.
  • U.S. Soccer A License (or UEFA A License).
  • Proficiency with data, video editing, and scout technology platforms (i.e., Statsbomb, Hudl, Sportscode, Wyscout, etc.).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role requires frequent domestic and international travel, often on short notice, including evenings, weekends, and holidays in alignment with the soccer calendar and recruitment needs. The position involves extended periods of sitting to conduct video analysis, meetings, and administrative tasks, as well as prolonged standing and walking at matches, training sessions, and scouting events. Candidates must be able to lift and transport up to 25 pounds of equipment or materials, operate scouting technology and computers for extended periods, and adapt to varying climates, environments, and time zones while maintaining focus and effectiveness. A valid passport and the ability to meet international travel requirements are essential.
