Position Description

The Sanneh Finance VISTA will improve financial and operational processes and increase organizational efficiency in order to help the organization achieve its goal of providing high-quality programs to improve learning outcomes for diverse and low-income students. Learn Sanneh's organizational history, become familiar with core program, activities, and major events.

Role and Responsibilities

 Foundations & Training in Financial Systems

  • Learn finance and accounting software programs, including (but not limited to): QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, Bloomerang, Google Suite, and various other reconciliation and accounting platforms.
  • Become familiar with vendors as they relate to organizational units and various program budgets.
  • Read Sanneh Accounting Policies and Procedures manual.
  • Learn current systems of invoicing for payables and receivables as it relates to organizational units and program budgets.
  • Become familiar with accounting system and codes for accurate input of accounting data.
  • Learn current system for tracking revenue and expense for programs and organizational units.Identify personal development resources to increase knowledge related to accounting and financial records.

Process Evaluation & Operational Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve current system of invoicing for payable and receivables as relates to organizational units and program budgets.
  •  Identify Opportunities to streamline operations surrounding payables and receivables.
  • Pilot creation of revenue and expense reports to monitor budget status for programs and organizational units.
  • Develop Process to create revenue and expense reports to monitor budget status for programs and organizational units.
  • Engage personal development resources to increase knowledge related to accounting and financial records, and document professional growth and development activities.
  • Improve financial and operational processes to increase organizational efficiency, oversee creation of best practices for connecting finance team and leads of programs to improve communication and record keeping.

Implementation & Financial Process Integration

  • Pilot improvements in system of invoicing for payable and receivables as relates to organizational units and program budgets. 
  • Continue to improve process of coding expenses for accounting and record keeping.
  • Continue to test and refine creation of revenue and expense reports to monitor budget status for programs and organizational units.
  • Continue to engage personal development resources to increase knowledge related to accounting and financial records, and document professional growth and development activities.
  • Support cash handling and bank deposits for organization.
  • Continue to improve invoicing systems for payables and receivables.
  • Enhance tracking of revenue and expenses for programs and organizational units.
  • Learn Integrate social enterprise finances with existing handbook and procedures.

Refinement, Documentation & Training Development

  • Continue to refine improvements in system of invoicing for payable and receivables as relates to organizational units and program budgets.
  • Continue to refine improvements in process of coding expenses for accounting and record keeping.
  • Continue to refinecreation of revenue and expense reports to monitor budget status for programs and organizational units. 
  • Finish thorough documentation of systems, processes and practices related to invoicing and accounting at Sanneh
  • Learn and develop internal training materials for new Accounting software (Sage Intacct).

Preferred Education & Qualifications

  • AmeriCorps VISTA’s must be 18 years or older.
  • Have a Valid Drivers License.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have lawful permanent residency.

Compensation & Benefits

AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers receive benefits during and after their service as they make a difference across America. This includes loan forbearance, professional development, and for those with children under 13, an Americorps childcare benefit. AmeriCorps compensation does not count as income for Social Security benefits.


Pay rate - $957.46 bi-weekly (before taxes). Segal Education Award -  $7,395 (before taxes, based on Pell Grant) is distributed via MyAmeriCorps.gov following a full term of service.
