Summary:
The Manager, Field Operations will play a key role in the day-to-day preparation and upkeep of Werner Park, supporting Omaha Storm Chasers games, Union Omaha matches, and other special events. This is a hands-on opportunity, and under the direction of the Director, Field Operations, you will gain valuable experience in professional sports turf management, with a focus on infield maintenance routines, agronomic best practices, and irrigation systems.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Manage the field and infield maintenance of Werner Park
  • Assist in the preparation of Werner Park for all home Omaha Storm Chasers games, Union Omaha matches, high school and/or college games, and other outside events throughout the season
  • Manage the maintenance and repair of the playing field that includes, but is not limited to turf (mowing, edging, fertilizing, aerating, top-dressing, etc.) and dirt (infield skin, baselines, home plate, pitcher’s mound, etc.) management.
  • Assist in aerification, topdressing, overseeding, verticutting, and other agronomic and cultural practices
  • Perform clay maintenance/management on mounds, home plate, infield skin, and warning track areas
  • Assist with management of the irrigation system including proper water management of the playing surface and outside landscape, periodic maintenance checks, repairing of leaking lines or valves, and winterization.
  • Assist with overseeing the preparation of the playing field for pre-game batting practice by setting up cages, screens, mats, and protective field covers
  • Oversee the preparation of the playing field for game use by grooming field, chalking base path foul lines, painting outfield foul lines, marking coaching boxes, etc.
  • Assist and lead with field transformation from baseball to soccer and back
  • Assist with managing all turf and landscaped areas in and outside of stadium grounds
  • Perform tarp management during varying weather situations, assist in management of infield tarp pulls as needed
  • Work with the Front Office and Stadium Ops team to assist in preparation for large scale outside events such as concerts, festivals, and corporate outings
  • Support snow removal on Werner Park premises, as needed
  • Manage vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • Associates Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Turf Management, Agronomy or related field preferred, but not required. 
  • Prior turf maintenance or groundskeeping experience required.
  • Must know moisture management for infields, plate and mounds.
  • Advanced knowledge of agronomic and cultural practices infield materials and turf. 
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive for organizational business
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Operate and maintain all equipment in a safe manner and keep in excellent working condition
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read, speak and comprehend English to collaborate effectively with others to produce results.
  • Must be able to carry, walk, sit, push, pull and move continuously during work hours.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Ability and willingness to work varied and long hours including nights and weekends
