Position Description

The Sanneh Human Resource VISTA will develop HR processes that aim to strengthen organizational capacity. This includes reviewing record retention policies, as well as improving onboarding and retention strategies of diverse staff whose goal is to improve learning outcomes for diverse and low-income students. Improve onboarding and orientation processes to integrate staff for successful employment and

retention.

Role and Responsibilities

Foundations & HR Systems Orientation

  • Review sustainability materials from prior VISTA
  •  Learn Sanneh organizational history, structure, and become familiar with core program, activities, and major events.
  • Audit and observe current onboarding processes and orientation practices.
  • Learn current system of onboarding and orienting new hires throughout core programs and organizational units.
  • Assess current system for tracking progression of new staff throughout timeline of onboarding and orientation.
  • Identify personal development resources to increase knowledge related to hiring and on-boarding new staff.

HR Process Evaluation & Development

  • Identify areas of opportunity to enhance the onboarding and orientation experience with a focus on cultural competency, equity, and retention.
  • Draft improved workflows for onboarding and orientation, including timelines, accountability structures, and measurable milestones.
  • Collaborate with program leaders and supervisors to align HR onboarding with program-specific needs.
  • Propose systems for collecting and analyzing new hire feedback to measure onboarding effectiveness.
  • Research and recommend professional development resources to improve Sanneh’s HR systems and staff support strategies.

Implementation & Capacity Building

  • Pilot newly developed onboarding and orientation improvements and refine based on feedback.
  • Strengthen systems for tracking employee progress during the first year of employment, integrating performance check-ins and engagement metrics.
  • Partner with HR leadership to develop strategies for improving employee retention and organizational culture.
  • Support updates to HR record retention policies and ensure practices are aligned with legal and compliance standards.
  • Document professional development activities and apply new knowledge to improve HR systems and staff integration practices.

Sustainability, Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

  • Finalize onboarding and orientation systems, ensuring consistency and sustainability across all organizational units.
  • Develop and publish a comprehensive HR Onboarding & Orientation Handbook for staff and supervisors.
  • Create internal training resources and toolkits to standardize onboarding and retention practices.
  • Document improved processes and create a sustainability plan to ensure HR capacity gains are maintained beyond the VISTA term.
  • Evaluate the impact of implemented HR improvements and present findings to organizational leadership.

 Preferred Education & Qualifications

  • AmeriCorps VISTA’s must be 18 years or older.
  • Have a Valid Drivers License.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have lawful permanent residency.

Compensation & Benefits

AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers receive benefits during and after their service as they make a difference across America. This includes loan forbearance, professional development, and for those with children under 13, an Americorps childcare benefit. AmeriCorps compensation does not count as income for Social Security benefits.


Pay rate - $957.46 bi-weekly (before taxes). Segal Education Award -  $7,395 (before taxes, based on Pell Grant) is distributed via MyAmeriCorps.gov following a full term of service.
