Overview
Columbus Crew is seeking a knowledgeable and highly skilled strength and conditioning coach to support the delivery of weight room and specific field-based performance qualities. Essential duties include, but are not limited to, design and implementation of strength and conditioning programming, management of sports science technologies, data collection and entry, ongoing physical performance testing. Collaboration with other performance staff is vital in areas of gym return to play programming and physical preparation/recovery implementations. This position reports directly to the Director of Sports Science and works closely with a multidisciplinary medical and performance staff to deliver a world class experience in line with our One Club mantra. 
Responsibilities:
  • Work directly with the Director of Sports Science and other key stakeholders to ensure a unified approach and One Club Philosophy. 
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills required to work effectively with players, coaches, team personnel and MLS staff.
  • Deliver dynamic, high-performance strategies to foster a competitive, nurturing training environment for athlete and coach success.
  • Design and implement individual and group strength and conditioning programming.
  • Ability to periodize and plan within Teambuildr or similar software to assist in tracking players from an individual and collective perspective.
  • Knowledgeable and effective utilization of applied science technologies for ongoing assessment and analysis of identified player KPI's (Ex: Force Plate, Velocity Based Training Systems, GPS, speed and power development).
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary staff, including but not limited to, Athletic Trainers, Dietitian, Sports Scientist, and Performance Coaches, to deliver individualized programming in the gym to support on-field physical demands.
  • Provide mentorship to younger performance staff professionals in the academy environment.
  • Educate and counsel players regarding strategies to improve performance. 
  • Comply with all club and league medical policies, protocol, and Game Operations Manual.
  • Maintain the appearance and organization of equipment, as well as educate and enforce weight room rules.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, or related fields, required
  • Strength and Conditioning certification (CSCS or equivalent), required
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience with elite level soccer players, required
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the implantation of strength and conditioning programming, essential
  • Experience in using GPS, VALD and other relevant systems, essential
  • Postgraduate degree in Exercise Science, or related fields, preferred 
  • CPR and AED certification, required
  • Additional certifications such as CPSS, USAW, PES, and CES, recommended
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a high performing environment
  • Available to travel when necessary and work evenings, weekends and holidays with some irregular hours
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including PowerPoint, Word and Excel
