Position Purpose
The Social Media Manager plays a pivotal role in our marketing operations, partnering with team staff to amplify and elevate the club's online presence and voice.
The Social Media Manager leads Detroit City FC’s social media presence by developing and executing creative content strategies across multiple platforms. This role requires fluency in English and a basic level of Spanish competency, as well as outstanding writing skills, creative instincts, and the ability to manage a comprehensive content calendar. The ideal candidate is passionate about sports and social media and thrives in fast-paced environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute and optimize a social content strategy across club platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Blue Sky, Twitter, and other emerging platforms.
- Develop and implement social campaigns focused on growth.
- Identify creative ways to increase support for ticket sales.
- Conceptualize, create, curate, and publish engaging content reflecting the club’s distinct voice and branding.
- Provide real-time and scheduled coverage for matches, trainings, events, and community activations.
- Maintain and update a consistent social content calendar.
- Collaborate with Communications and Marketing teams to amplify team announcements, ticket sales, merchandise launches, and other initiatives.
- Engage with fans through comments, DMs, and direct interactions, especially on match days.
- Support paid campaigns and cross-promotions for club announcements and merchandising.
- Track, analyze, and report on social media performance metrics and digital engagement improvements.
- Write clear, sharp, entertaining, and on-brand copy in both English and Spanish.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with partnership marketing to plan and post sponsor content series, manage sponsor/partner shot lists, and create partner content campaigns.
Match Day and Travel Responsibilities
- Attend all home matches and provide full coverage via social channels.
- Travel to away matches as required.
- Cover trainings, events, and community activations.
Qualifications and Experience
- 2 years of experience in social media specialization (preferably sports-affiliated).
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (written and verbal).
- Demonstrated portfolio showcasing creative campaigns, short-form video content, and writing skills.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere)
- Video creation and editing skills, especially for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
- Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and match days.
- Passion for storytelling, creativity, sports culture, and soccer specifically.
- Knowledge of emerging social media platforms, analytics, and best practices.
- Ability to work well in fast-paced, collaborative environments.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment, including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to exchange ideas and information. Social Media Coordinator is a somewhat sedentary role; however, some filing is required. The position requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
