What will I Do?
You will work for one of Utah’s most recognizable sports + entertainment brands, with a great team, creating lasting memories for our guests and fans! 
The Vice President of Accounting is responsible for the accounting close, controls and compliance functions of the platform, including: Megaplex Theatres, Salt Lake Bees, Real Salt Lake, Utah Royals, Real Monarchs, Real Training Academy, Big League Utah and the Miller Sports and Entertainment management company. The role is responsible for the monthly/quarterly/annual financial close process, accounts receivable & payable, technical accounting, ERP implementation and management, external audits, control environment, management of accounting policies, presentations to management and development of best practices. The Vice President of Accounting champions the company’s Mission and Vision and models the company Values.

The position will:
  • Protect the moral, legal, and financial assets and wellbeing of the company.

  • Serve as the CFO’s primary technical accounting partner on complex policy decisions, control design, systems implementation and audit strategy.
  • Lead and manage the accounting team with a focus on mentorship and development.
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process end-to-end, including reviews with management, by business day 8, with a focus on accuracy, process improvement, automation and timeliness.
  • Create and oversee the process for the preparation and review of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, flux analysis, and trend analysis.
  • Create and oversee the process for accounts receivable, including AR Aging review, collections, commissions and the integration into the ERP.
  • Create and oversee the process for accounts payable, including AP aging review, on-time bill payments, management of the bill.com system and integration into the ERP.
  • Manage all technical accounting areas including revenue recognition, lease accounting, consolidations, intercompany eliminations, sponsorship etc.
  • Lead the platform’s finance compliance efforts including, but not limited to, external audits, internal audits, and support the tax compliance department (property, sales, income, etc).
  • Own the design, documentation, and continuous enhancement of the internal control environment.
  • Ensure that fixed assets are tracked and GAAP depreciation expense is properly calculated.
  • Support People & Culture (HR) in their role to report regularly on the platform’s bonus programs.
  • Lead the platform’s transition from Sage 100/QuickBooks Enterprise to NetSuite. Design a simplified, yet robust, chart of accounts to be used in the new system.
  • Provide clean, accurate and timely reports as needed by management.
  • Review completed contracts and leases to ensure proper accounting treatment.
  • All other tasks as assigned

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, required
  • Master’s degree in accounting, preferred
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Hands-on experience with Netsuite and/or system implementation preferred
  • Proven track record of building accounting teams and processes from the ground up.
  • Great communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple teams
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in progressive roles in industry, accounting or finance
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to anticipate work needs and follow through with minimum direction
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background and drug screening
  • Responsible for large sums of money 
  • Must be able to accurately meet deadlines
  • Must be able to work in pressure situations
