This role is critical in shaping the future roster of Loudoun United FC and will work closely with the Head Coach and Technical Staff to build a competitive and sustainable team.
Key Responsibilities:
Overall Scouting Strategy & Management:
  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive scouting strategy for Loudoun United FC, focusing on immediate roster needs and long-term player development pathways.
  • Lead and manage all aspects of talent identification, evaluation, and recruitment for the First Team.
  • Collaborate closely with the General Manager/Sporting Director and Head Coach to ensure scouting priorities are aligned with the club's tactical style, formation, and playing philosophy.
  • Maintain and manage a robust player database, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information on prospective targets.
  • Stay abreast of emerging scouting technologies, methodologies, and market trends within professional soccer.
  • Provide regular, detailed scouting reports, presentations, and recommendations to the Technical Staff and Front Office.
  • Manage a network of freelance scouts and contacts, optimizing their output and effectiveness.
Video Scouting (Primary Focus):
  • Utilize advanced video analysis platforms (e.g., Wyscout, Hudl Sportscode) to scout and evaluate players across the USL Championship, USL League One, USL League Two, NCAA Men's D1/D2/D3 soccer, MLS Next, and ECNL.
  • Conduct in-depth video analysis of individual player performances, focusing on technical abilities, tactical understanding, physical attributes, decision-making, and psychological profiles within various game scenarios.
  • Identify and track emerging talents, producing detailed video compilations and analytical reports highlighting strengths, weaknesses, and potential for integration into the USL Championship environment.
  • Perform opponent analysis and provide insights on potential player targets based on their performance against different tactical setups and playing styles.
  • Contribute to post-match analysis of Loudoun United FC's performances, identifying areas for player development and potential recruitment needs based on team dynamics.
In-Person Scouting:
  • Conduct targeted in-person scouting missions to evaluate players identified through video analysis or direct recommendations.
  • Attend matches and tournaments across the USL Championship, USL League One, USL League Two, key NCAA Men's soccer conferences, MLS Next showcases, and ECNL national/regional events.
  • Proactively identify young, high-potential players in the region at MLS Next and ECNL clubs, establishing relationships with their coaches and families where appropriate, and monitoring their development.
  • Assess player performance in live game environments, observing intangible qualities such as leadership, work rate, communication, and resilience that may not be fully captured through video.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with coaches, technical directors, and relevant contacts within youth academies, college programs, and lower-division professional clubs.
  • Provide contextual insights from live observations to complement video reports, offering a holistic view of player suitability.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience in a professional scouting or player recruitment role within soccer, preferably at the professional or high-level collegiate ranks.
  • Demonstrated expertise in both video scouting methodologies and in-person talent identification.
  • Extensive knowledge of the US soccer landscape, particularly the USL Championship, USL League One, USL League Two, the NCAA collegiate soccer system, and the MLS Next and ECNL youth soccer platforms.
